چکیده

1. H as homogeneous space for G = SL 2 (R) 2. Fundamental domain for Γ = SL 2 (Z) on H 3. Inversion and translation generate SL 2 (Z). 4. Re-enabling the action of SL 2 (R) 5. Fundamental domain for Γ θ and Γ(2) 6. Generators for Γ θ 7. Theta series are modular forms The real line R, being a group, is a homogeneous space in the sense that (of course) it acts transitively on itself. The upper half-plane H is not a group itself, but is acted upon by SL 2 (R) (2-by-2 real matrices with determinant 1) acting by linear fractional transformations a b c d (z) = az + b cz + d We will see that the simplest quotient of the upper half-plane, SL 2 (Z)\H, is topologically a sphere with a point missing. However, in the SL 2 (R)-invariant geometry, the missing point is infinitely far away, so the shape is not a round sphere, but stretched out like a raindrop.

On the multiplicativity of quantum cat maps

The quantum mechanical propagators of the linear automorphisms of the two-torus (cat maps) determine a projective unitary representation of the theta group Γ θ ⊂ SL(2, Z). We prove that there exists an appropriate choice of phases in the propagators that defines a proper representation of Γ θ. We also give explicit formulae for the propagators in this representation.

Binary quadratic forms and Eichler orders

For any Eichler order O(D,N) of level N in an indefinite quaternion algebra of discriminant D there is a Fuchsian group Γ(D,N) ⊆ SL(2,R) and a Shimura curve X(D,N). We associate to O(D,N) a set H(O(D,N)) of binary quadratic forms which have semi-integer quadratic coefficients, and we develop a classification theory, with respect to Γ(D,N), for primitive forms contained in H(O(D,N)). In particul...

The Monodromy Groups of Schwarzian Equations on Compact Riemann Surfaces

Let R be an oriented compact surface without boundary of genus exceeding one, and let θ : π1(R;O) → Γ ⊂ PSL(2,C) be a homomorphism of its fundamental group onto a nonelementary group Γ of Möbius transformations. We present a complete, self-contained proof of the following facts: (i) θ is induced by a complex projective structure for some complex structure on R if and only if θ lifts to a homomo...

Infinite topology of curve complexes and non-Poincaré duality of Teichmüller modular groups

Let S be an orientable surface. Let Diff(S) be the group of all diffeomorphisms of S, and Diff(S) its identity component. Then Mod±S = Diff(S)/Diff (S) is called the extended mapping class group or the extended Teichmüller modular group of S. Let Diff(S) be the subgroup of orientation preserving diffeomorphisms of S. Then Mod(S) = Diff(S)/Diff(S) is called the mapping class group or the Teichmü...

Supplementary Materials to Semiparametric Analysis of Heterogeneous Data Using Varying-Scale Generalized Linear Models

The supplementary materials are a full Appendix of the paper. It includes two parts: Appendix A contains an additional theorem on asymptotic expansions of λ θ (z) and λ (1) θ (z), two related corollaries, and their proofs. Appendix B contains proofs of the three theorems in the paper. In Appendix A.1, we provide an additional theorem on asymptotic expansions of the local maximum likelihood esti...
